Frontier Rails Ltd and the Ministry of Rail Development have had serious discussions on the Western Rail Line and are about to sign an MOU. The Ministry has tasked Frontier to come up with a firm and detailed execution plan to build the Western Rail line from Dunkwa to Hamile, then Dunkwa to Paga with a ring from Dunkwa through Awaso to Tachiman and back to Dunkwa through Kumasi.
Frontier believes all rail lines in Ghana must conform to the standard gauge specification and considering the government's plan to revamp the smaller gauge systems from Sekondi - Takoradi to Tarkwa as a temporary measure, Frontier has proposed to the Ministry to build a fresh parallel line from Takoradi to Tarkwa to join the Dunkwa - Tachiman stretch. This will be a good redundant alternative to any other parallel line from Takoradi to Dunkwa and may be a preferred line to give the commercial communities along the route much comfort.
The proposed Western Rail line shall be powered by fuel although Frontier remains open to discussions on electric powered version of the project. A sister power Generation Company of Frontier currently in the works is being considered to provide a reliable electric power version for the project. This final decision shall be made when the intended Special-Purpose Vehicle (SPV) partners are all confirmed.
